"In our day to day actions, it is often the small and simple things that will have a long-lasting impact. What we say, how we act, and how we choose to react will influence not only ourselves but also those around us. We can build up, or we can tear down." -Per G. Malm

Stair Stymie

Why is it that when Emily is at other people's homes she properly will go down the stairs (backward). However, in our home, she tends to 1. hold on to the rail ultimately falling down the stairs head first because it is too tall for her. 2. She will also start to go down correctly and then laugh and go back up the stairs taunting me. Or 3. she will sit on her bottom and go down holding on to mom. (If I'm not in front of her we revert back to Stair Descent number 1). Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone have a solution?

It sounds like she is comfortable in her own home and she trusts mom to be there and not let anything happen to her, she is more "careful" in places she is not as familiar. But sorry no solution--It's just one of the ways your children make you completely certifiably crazy over time!

Well A blog from Becca so cool. I ask Anna about you all the time in e-mails. Now I can see for myself. Anyhow I agree with Anna gates, however they are tricky for stairs so you might have to do some clever thinking. At our house in Indiana we had to angle our gate on the third step because we had a window at the bottom of the stairs and that was the only way it worked. Here at my parents house we don't have a problem with stairs so for now we just have one gate at the kitchen to keep the little guy out of the kitchen.
